The term ‘long tail’ refers to keyword search using 3 words or more in the search engines. If you take a look at your Google Analytics data you will see a large percentage of your SEO traffic is generated from long tail search. Furthermore, the more specific the search term the more qualified the traffic.

So why do so many Australian businesses just focus on a small number of popular keywords?

It just does not make sense. By focusing your SEO strategy on a small number of popular keywords you are not only reaching a small percentage of the online market, but you are making life hard for you and your SEO company to achieve top results.  Think like your customers, spread your SEO strategy across a large number of keywords, continuous update your content and your traffic and sales will start heading in the right direction.
