Yelp joins Apple Maps & Becomes a Must Use for Businesses

Apple has joined the interactive local search party with their recent announcement that Yelp will be integrated into their brand new maps application on iOS 6. This follows on from Yelp teaming up with Bing and the recent Google+ Local and Zagat advancements.

How will this impact local search?

apple maps credit mashableApple’s decision to side with Yelp will see a rise in local search prominence for the business review website, especially considering that Apple Maps will be replacing Google Maps across all Apple products.

Apple Maps will source their business information from Yelp, allowing the maps platform to find and direct you to providers in your local area. Yelp’s other features, like reviews and check-ins, will also be integrated into the Maps application.

Previously Yelp simply provided reviews to iPhone users searching through Siri, their voice recognition software. The updated iO6 platform will be far more extensive with obvious placement of local reviews, content and the ability to seamlessly check-in.

Other features of the Apple Maps platform will include turn-by-turn directions, crowd sourced incident reports, 3D rendering and Siri Integration.

So what does the Apple & Yelp partnership mean for your Australian business?

Due to Apple’s large smart-phone adoption, this move will claim a massive slice of the local search pie as soon as it comes into effect.

Yelp Australia’s own Tresna Lee has stressed the importance of having a Yelp listing to ensure you appear on Apple Maps when it launches later this year. The opportunity for Australian businesses to set-up their Yelp listing now paves ways for a huge potential rise in search when Apple Maps commences in the back end of 2012.

Even though the local products from Bing and Apple aren’t available in Australia just yet, it is pivotal that you add your business to Yelp now to be in the best position when the changes occur. Do this and you will be ahead of your competition.
