Penguin 2.1 Strikes – Google’s 5th Penguin Update

Google announces the 5th Update to the Penguin Algorithm Update is Now Live – Penguin 2.1

Less than a month after announcing the complete algorithm overhaul dubbed Hummingbird Google has announced their 5th update to the Penguin algorithm update – Penguin 2.1.

Google Penguin 2.1 Strikes

Who Has Been Affected?

Google released Penguin 2.0 in May of 2013, causing 2.3% of English-US queries to fall off the face of Google Earth (well the search results anyway). This time, according to one of Google distinguished engineers Matt Cutts, that:

“(Penguin 2.1) affects ~1% of searches to a noticeable degree.”

What’s New to Penguin 2.1?

The Penguin algorithm updates have always revolved around creating a better web experience for users, penalising ‘spammy’ users and offering a more balanced and relevant results. Penguin 2.1 has an improved web spam filter so users with spammy content and links that hadn’t previously been affected beware. Google’s Penguin 2.1 may be out to strike your website off the search results.

What Should I Be Doing?

roi.com.au has always complied with Google’s guidelines so if you’re with us then breathe easy. It’s more than likely you haven’t been affected by the latest update. We’re a top search engine optimisation agency in Australia and we stay up to date with Google algorithm changes. If you’ve been hit by a manual penalty or algorithm penalty we’re all over it trying to see your website succeed in the search results again.

If you have had a penguin strike then there will most likely be a lot of work ahead to fix what you breached and get your results back, but the simple rule is if something sounds a little bit dodgy then it probably is. Stick to Google’s guidelines and your website is safe from striker Penguins.

So Where Does Penguin 2.1 Fit in with Hummingbird?

Google’s announcements can seem a little confusing at the best of times. So where does the latest Penguin 2.1 update fit in with Google’s Hummingbird? As previously mentioned Google’s Hummingbird was a complete overhaul of its algorithm. Penguin 2.1 is just a part of the Hummingbird puzzle in making Google search results more relevant.
