Next week Apple will finally launch their iPhone3G here in Australia and for many -who have been hanging out for this date since its US release- this is not soon enough.
Named as Time Magazine’s 2007 Invention of the Year, iPhones have been available in the United States for just over a year and July 11th will finally see this user friendly, funky multimedia device available throughout 24 countries worldwide, including Australia.
Combining functions of two very popular devices; the mobile phone and the iPod, the iPhone is one of the most significant technological innovations to date according to Apple’s CEO, Steve Jobs.
“Every once in a while a revolutionary product comes along that changes everything. It’s very fortunate if you can work on just one of these in your career. … Apple’s been very fortunate in that it’s introduced a few of these” Jobs said when iPhones were released in the USA.
If internet searches are any thing to go by then iPhones are going to be a massive hit here in Australia, between April and June this year searches for the word ‘iPhone’ have increased 95 percent.
In addition, over 5000 variations on the search phrase such as; ‘iPhone review’ and ‘iPhone Australia’ were recorded during the four week period between May and June this year.
In the United States 270,000 iPhones were sold within the first 30 hours of its launch and with Australia’s three major phone carriers; Telstra, Optus and Vodafone all heavily promoting the July 11th launch on the front page of their websites, iPhone Australia is already big news.
Desperate not to loose customers, Australia’s other major mobile carrier; 3 Mobile -who have not managed to get a dealer licence from iPhone Australia- have even gone as far as appealing to the media and its customers for help.
A new web site is now being created to show Apple just how much 3 Mobile - and 3 Mobile customers - want the iPhones.
Combining three products in one—a revolutionary phone, a widescreen iPod with iPhone download, and a breakthrough Internet device with full web browsing there is little wonder why iPhone Australia is big news even before the majority of us have not even laid a finger on the device.
