Five Reasons Your Business Should Be On Google+

Why your business should be on Google+

Customers are searching the Internet more than ever to find products and services. Google+ helps a business to be more visible to potential customers on the world’s largest search engine. It’s also an easy and cost effective way to compete in the search ranking game.

However, many have questioned the platform’s usefulness in the diverse and competitive social media landscape. A former Google+ engineer even declared Google+ to be dead. Despite this, there’s still plenty of evidence that the social network is valuable to business. Are you getting the most out of your Google Plus and Google Places accounts?

Here’s a round up of five reasons why businesses shouldn’t be giving up on Google+ yet.

1. SEO VALUE

SEO Value

  • By creating a Google Places Profile within a Google+ account search rankings can improve, making a business more discoverable to those searching in an area.
  • By posting on Google+ a business page is immediately indexed by Google. This allows for the content that’s posted to a Google+ page to rank within search results. This is an added bonus to businesses with websites that are not ranking.
  • According to a recent survey presented on Marketing Land, On average, 71.33% of searches resulted in a page one Google organic click. Page two and three get only 5.59% of the clicks. This highlights the importance of a website being on page one.

2. GET FEEDBACK

Get Feedback

  • Encouraging customers to post reviews about a business is a great way to build credibility and to foster customer engagement. Reviews allow potential customers to see that a business is both legitimate and competent.
  • Positive reviews on Google+ are one factor that could see a business place higher on Google Places results.
  • Google+ allows customers to leave reviews and businesses to reply to them. Business owners can reply to negative reviews to rectify any problems that may arise and to receive valuable feedback to improve business processes. Alternatively, positive reviews can be used to encourage returning business.

3. BRANDING

Build your Brand

  • Google+ pages provide local businesses, brands, organizations and artists with a public identity and presence on Google+.
  • By sharing reliable information about a business to customers a company is growing its brand awareness.
  • Users can blog, which is a powerful and fun way to get a message out to customers and can improve ranking results. By frequently blogging and posting information a business can create a personality that is more relatable to customers.
  • Pictures and videos can also be uploaded, allowing customers to see a product range or a sample of a service. This can further push a brand to customers and demonstrates credibility.

4. INTEGRATION AND COLLABORATION

integration and collaboration

  • Google+ perfectly integrates other Google accounts such as Gmail and YouTube.
  • By integrating these accounts, employees can keep track of their meetings through Google Calendars. Likewise, Google Documents can store all documents on a Cloud-based system, accessible from anywhere. This is perfect for small businesses that cannot afford expensive management and Cloud software.
  • Google+ Hangouts is a group video chat tool that can host up to 10 members. A Hangout is a great way to undertake free webinars for customers or to host meetings with clients or employees who may be offsite.

5. LOCAL PAGES

Local pages

  • Google Local allows a business to upload essential information like opening times and contact details.
  • This can put a business on the map. Literally! By adding a business address on Google+ a business can appear on neighbourhood search results. This increases the reach to potential customers who are searching for businesses in an area.
  • Importantly, it also allows for a company to be verified by Google. This provides useful analytics on things such as where users are requesting driving directions from to reach a company’s location and the types of terms customers are searching on Google to find a company.
